Peter Mika

Company director and choreographer

Peter Mika was born in Michalovce, Slovakia, in 1972, Nov 20th. He received his education at the University of Music and Drama Art in Bratislava. He has danced with Torzo Ballet in Bratislava, Bruno Genty in Paris, was a member of S.O.A.P. Dance Theatre Frankfurt. After leaving S.O.A.P. he joined the Robert Pool Dance Company in Essen.
In 1999 he was a member of Rui Horta stage works in Munich. Lately, he worked for Russell Maliphant Company in London. He has been awarded by the prize of the Rudolf Nureyev Foundation at the '8th International Concours de Dance de Paris' in 1998, 'Tanzförderpreis' City of Munich 2002. 2nd Prize at The international solo choreography competition in Stuttgart.

He regularly teaches at Institut del Teatre in Barcelona, Centre James Carles in Toulouse and Epse Danse in Montpelier. He has created choreographies for several dance companies like Stattheater Braunschweig, Ballet Theatre Munich, Landesteater Linz, Bratislava Dance Theatre. He co operates as a guest teacher and choreographer at Music Hochshule Frankfurt and regularly holds dance workshops on several dance festivals, for example in Toulouse, Voiron, Mansle, Prague, Munich, Barcelona, Madrid, London. For the TV station Arte he made with Marcus Beherens a dance movie 'Mareas', documentary about the S.O.A.P. Dance Theatre, and a short film of the duo piece 'Duet'.

Since 2000 he is directing together with Olga Cobos the CobosMika Company based in Palamos, Spain. Here he has created 5 evening programmes which were internationally toured. Company has been selected for 'Les Plateaux Biennale Nationale de Danse du Val de Marne'2002. Holders of the Tanzförderpreises der Stadt München 2003. 2º Prize at The international solo choreography competition in Stuttgart 2004 (Choreographt for the Dancer Ceren Yavan).
As interpreters, Olga & Peter, have danced at Grand Théâtre de la Ville (Paris), Royal Opera (London), Opera Comic (Paris), The Joyce New York, Maison de la Dance à Lyon, The Place London, among other venues in USA, Canada, Russia, Txec Republic, Japan, South America, Denmark, etc.
